Rosita and Sian Search for a Great Work of Art


1.    Taking the arts one at a time, do you think they are stifled or repressed in your community? In your life? In your country? Literature, Dance, Music, Theatre, Visual art.

2.    Did you read the story out loud? Was it a different experience than reading it to yourself? Did having an audience matter?

3.    Did you relate to Rosita or Sian? To any of the other characters? Did they remind you of anyone you know?

4.    Is creativity something that comes from inside you, or is it something you learn from others?

5.    Do you feel you have to be involved in an activity labeled as an "art" in order to be creative? How does creativity come out in your everyday life?

6.    Is creativity usually repressed by overt action or by habit? Is it a matter of control or a matter of apathy?

7.    How is creativity being encouraged in your community? How do you encourage creativity in the people around you? In yourself?

8.    Is hands-on activity important? In the arts? In everyday life?

9.    Did it bother you that there was an absence of parents or guardians in the story? Were adults very much a part of your life when a child? Or are they, if you are a young person?

10.    How do you think Rosita or Sian's view of the adults around them differ from your view?

11.    How do man-made colors affect your life?

12.    Is Rosita and Sian's world very different from your world?

13.    Did you like the ending of the story?
